Created by the dedicated students of the Classical Iconography Institute\, these works bridge the gap between ancient tradition and modern scholarship\, proving that the study of religion is a vivid\, transformative\, and deeply aesthetic experience. \nWhether you are a scholar of religion\, an art lover\, or a curious traveler\, AGIOS invites you to explore the intersection of beauty and tradition. Experience how gold leaf\, egg tempera\, and ancient techniques can create a modern-day encounter with the holy. \nOn Saturday\, July 11\, 2026\, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm\, there will be a live painting demonstration from one of the Institute’s iconographers during the Abbey’s Saint Benedict Festival. \nThe exhibition will conclude with a public closing reception on Sunday\, August 2\, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm.

DESCRIPTION:The Lectionary in the Liturgical Year\nLed by Fr. Stephen Rowan \nOblate retreats are limited to oblates and those interested in becoming oblates. \nMost Catholics encounter the Scriptures primarily through the proclamation of the readings at Sunday Mass. Those readings inform the celebration of each Eucharist by providing specific reasons for thanksgiving\, and the Eucharist\, in turn\, forms the Church\, the body of Christ. \nThe Lectionary\, the liturgical book containing these readings\, in a beautiful and well-conceived way\, has set forth the riches of the scriptures more lavishly and systematically than at any time in the Church’s history. In this retreat\, we will reflect in nine presentations on how the Lectionary helps to form the Church at each Eucharist as the people of God\, the Body of Christ\, and the Temple of the Holy Spirit. We will reflect on how the scriptures shape the celebrations of the Liturgical Year (the seasons of Advent\, Christmas\, Lent\, and Eastertime and the Sundays of Ordinary Time)\, even as those celebrations shape the Church. \nIn nine presentations\, it will be possible to touch only briefly and by way of example on how the scriptures inform the celebrations of the Eucharist in the Liturgical Year. However\, the purpose of the Retreat will be achieved if the general principles of arrangement are understood and their significance for celebrating the Eucharist is appreciated. \n\nOblates of Saint Benedict are Christians who have experienced in some way a call to embrace Benedictine spirituality. After a time of prayer and discernment they have desired a more formal\, permanent commitment to a monastic community. By making this formal self-giving to Christ in communion with a monastic community\, the oblate embraces the time-tested traditions and values of the Benedictine way. This scholarship choir program\, performing under the Treble Choir Association of the Philippines (TCAP)\, founded by Dr. Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan and Prof. Jude B. Roldan\, has transformed lives by nurturing not only musical talent but also the holistic development of its young members. \nAbout the Young Voices of the Philippines \nYVP provides a unique space where children from diverse backgrounds come together\, forging meaningful connections through their shared love for music. Here\, they hone their skills\, discover their voices\, and create lasting friendships\, all while engaging in rehearsals\, performances\, and festivals that celebrate their hard work and dedication. \nIn 2023\, YVP made history by becoming the first choir from the Philippines to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall’s Isaac Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.  In addition to this historic performance in the USA\, YVP also won multiple first prizes at the 12th Golden Gate International Choral Festival USA. They received four first-prize trophies across the Youth Choir Historical\, Folk\, Gospel/Spiritual\, and Contemporary Categories. \nThe National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) awarded YVP the 2024 ANI NG DANGAL (Harvest of Honors). John Paul Le\, OSB \nThis retreat will be an introduction to the three ages of the spiritual life as articulated by the great mystics of the Church and summarized in Garrigou-Lagrange’s The Three Ages of the Spiritual Life. This retreat will go over the process of spiritual growth from the purgative stage to the illuminative stage and finally to the unitive stage. The basic markers of each phase will be addressed as well as the challenges that need to be overcome. By learning about the stages of spiritual growth\, one can deepen one’s life in the spirit and grow deeper in intimate union with Christ. \n\nFr. John Paul was born in 1983 in Garden City Kansas\, but most of his childhood was spent on the Southeast Texas coast\, where his parents fished for shrimp. They immigrated from Vietnam in 1980. In 1997\, his family moved to Washington state where he attended Southridge High School in Kennewick\, WA.  He received his B.S. in Life-Science from the University of Portland. After graduation\, he did volunteer work in East Timor and Texas with the Salesians. Fr. John Paul entered the monastery of ��ݮ��Ƶ in 2008 and was ordained to the Sacred Order of the priesthood in 2015. DESCRIPTION:Retreat with Chris Anderson \n“I am an Augustinian\, a son of Saint Augustine\, who once said\, ‘With you I am a Christian\, and for you I am a bishop.’ In this sense\, all of us can journey together toward the homeland that God has prepared for us.” —Pope Leo XIV \nSt. Augustine believed that God speaks to us through our lives\, in what he called “drops of time\,” and when we remember these moments\, he speaks to us again. Using several passages from The Confessions to get us started\, we’ll remember a few of our own important moments—and like Augustine\, we’ll write about them\, informally and from the heart. \nFor Augustine both writing and remembering can be ways of praying. When we do both\, when we write about our past\, we begin to see more clearly the sacred story of our lives. \nAll are welcome\, especially those who are insecure about their writing. SUMMARY:Keeping a Journal with God
DESCRIPTION:Retreat with Margaret Kellermann \nIn a CNN news report years ago\, a non-speaking child typed on her computer: “I hear God’s finest whispers.” Taken aback\, the reporter asked the child what God told her. The child typed\, “He says he loves me\, too.” \nTo enrich our own journey with God in this retreat\, we can learn a simple\, meditative way of writing and listening for God’s wise\, kind and often surprising response. We’ll quickly review journal keeping basics\, then explore the deeper currents of journaling with God\, learning from saints\, poets and other journal keepers as we go along. \nYou’ll want to bring your favorite blank book and pen (or your silent electronic device). Upon arrival at the retreat\, each participant will receive a copy of Margaret’s new book Journal Keeper’s Alphabet (pub. date June 2026)\, which we’ll use as a handbook throughout the sessions. When published\, additional copies will be available through Mount Angel Bookstore\, as well as through Amazon in both paperback and ebook editions. \nMargaret Kellermann is a longtime journal workshop leader and the director of Brave Arts in Northern California. The Holy Spirit comes powerfully to our aid as we form our intellect in the truth and conform our will to God’s\, restoring the flow of grace in and through us for the healing of ourselves and others. \n\nDr. Christin McIntyre is a married mother of five who converted to Catholicism in 1997. She earned a combined MD/PhD degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Kansas Medical Center\, and returned to Oregon to complete a residency in Psychiatry at OHSU. She has been in outpatient practice as a psychiatrist in the Portland area since 2003\, transitioning to telehealth in 2020\, and now treats patients remotely in four states since relocating to Idaho in 2021. In addition to medication management\, psychotherapy continues to be a main focus of her practice. To better serve a growing number of Catholic patients in recent years\, she has pursued training in Thomistic psychology as well as with the John Paul II Healing Center\, and has been a featured guest on two recent episodes of the Restore the Glory Podcast with Dr. Bob Schuchts and Jake Khym. After a time of prayer and discernment they have desired a more formal\, permanent commitment to a monastic community. By making this formal self-giving to Christ in communion with a monastic community\, the oblate embraces the time-tested traditions and values of the Benedictine way.
