From June through August\, the Institute transforms the ݮƵ Library entryway into a sacred gallery. Our extraordinary exhibition brings together original\, hand-written icons created by modern-day artists preserving the centuries-old Byzantine style. \nAGIOS: Communion of Saints is a landmark 2026 exhibition featuring a breathtaking collection of original icons. Created by the dedicated students of the Classical Iconography Institute\, these works bridge the gap between ancient tradition and modern scholarship\, proving that the study of religion is a vivid\, transformative\, and deeply aesthetic experience. \nWhether you are a scholar of religion\, an art lover\, or a curious traveler\, AGIOS invites you to explore the intersection of beauty and tradition. Experience how gold leaf\, egg tempera\, and ancient techniques can create a modern-day encounter with the holy. \nOn Saturday\, July 11\, 2026\, from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm\, there will be a live painting demonstration from one of the Institute’s iconographers during the Abbey’s Saint Benedict Festival. \nThe exhibition will conclude with a public closing reception on Sunday\, August 2\, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. Stephen Rowan \nOblate retreats are limited to oblates and those interested in becoming oblates. \nMost Catholics encounter the Scriptures primarily through the proclamation of the readings at Sunday Mass. Those readings inform the celebration of each Eucharist by providing specific reasons for thanksgiving\, and the Eucharist\, in turn\, forms the Church\, the body of Christ. \nThe Lectionary\, the liturgical book containing these readings\, in a beautiful and well-conceived way\, has set forth the riches of the scriptures more lavishly and systematically than at any time in the Church’s history. In this retreat\, we will reflect in nine presentations on how the Lectionary helps to form the Church at each Eucharist as the people of God\, the Body of Christ\, and the Temple of the Holy Spirit. We will reflect on how the scriptures shape the celebrations of the Liturgical Year (the seasons of Advent\, Christmas\, Lent\, and Eastertime and the Sundays of Ordinary Time)\, even as those celebrations shape the Church. \nIn nine presentations\, it will be possible to touch only briefly and by way of example on how the scriptures inform the celebrations of the Eucharist in the Liturgical Year. However\, the purpose of the Retreat will be achieved if the general principles of arrangement are understood and their significance for celebrating the Eucharist is appreciated. \n\nOblates of Saint Benedict are Christians who have experienced in some way a call to embrace Benedictine spirituality. After a time of prayer and discernment they have desired a more formal\, permanent commitment to a monastic community. By making this formal self-giving to Christ in communion with a monastic community\, the oblate embraces the time-tested traditions and values of the Benedictine way. Oblates are united to the prayer and good works of the monastery to which they are associated while they continue to live out their Christian vocation in the world. \nFor more information on becoming on oblate\, or if you are in need of financial assistance\, please email Lucy Baker\, Assistant Oblate Director. \nTo register\, email retreat@mtangel.edu. \nCost\nWednesday\, June 17th evening arrival – $440\, single occupancy | $660\, double occupancy\nThursday\, June 18th morning arrival – $385\, single occupancy | $570\, double occupancy\nLunch provided on Thursday. No lunch on Sunday. This scholarship choir program\, performing under the Treble Choir Association of the Philippines (TCAP)\, founded by Dr. Maria Theresa Vizconde-Roldan and Prof. Jude B. Roldan\, has transformed lives by nurturing not only musical talent but also the holistic development of its young members. \nAbout the Young Voices of the Philippines \nYVP provides a unique space where children from diverse backgrounds come together\, forging meaningful connections through their shared love for music. Here\, they hone their skills\, discover their voices\, and create lasting friendships\, all while engaging in rehearsals\, performances\, and festivals that celebrate their hard work and dedication. \nIn 2023\, YVP made history by becoming the first choir from the Philippines to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall’s Isaac Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage.  In addition to this historic performance in the USA\, YVP also won multiple first prizes at the 12th Golden Gate International Choral Festival USA. They received four first-prize trophies across the Youth Choir Historical\, Folk\, Gospel/Spiritual\, and Contemporary Categories. \nThe National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) awarded YVP the 2024 ANI NG DANGAL (Harvest of Honors). This award is given to artists and cultural workers who have earned the top international awards and accolades and whose works and achievements have placed the Philippines among the best in the world. From his younger years\, he always had the mind of an old man; for his age was inferior to his virtue. All vain pleasure he despised\, and though he was in the world\, and might freely have enjoyed such commodities as it yields\, yet he esteemed it and its vanities as nothing. \nHe was born in the province of Nursia\, of honorable parentage\, and brought up at Rome in the study of humanity. As much as he saw many by reason of such learning fall to dissolute and lewd life\, he drew back his foot\, which he had as it were now set forth into the world\, lest\, entering too far in acquaintance with it\, he likewise might have fallen into that dangerous and godless gulf. \nTherefore\, giving over his book\, and forsaking his father’s house and wealth\, with a resolute mind only to serve God\, he sought for some place\, where he might attain to the desire of his holy purpose. Using several passages from The Confessions to get us started\, we’ll remember a few of our own important moments—and like Augustine\, we’ll write about them\, informally and from the heart. \nFor Augustine both writing and remembering can be ways of praying. When we do both\, when we write about our past\, we begin to see more clearly the sacred story of our lives. \nAll are welcome\, especially those who are insecure about their writing. Please bring your journal or laptop or whatever you write with. \nBook recommendations for this retreat is Rex Warner’s translation of Augustine’s Confessions. \nChris Anderson is a retired OSU English Professor\, a Catholic deacon\, and a poet and writer in Corvallis\, Oregon. Ephrem Martinez\, OSB \nOblate retreats are limited to oblates and those interested in becoming oblates. \nOblates of Saint Benedict are Christians who have experienced in some way a call to embrace Benedictine spirituality. \nTo register for a retreat\, email retreat@mtangel.edu. \n(Please note: All weekend retreats begin with Vespers on Friday at 5:15 and end with lunch on Sunday.) \nOblate Weekend Retreat Rates:\n$220 Single\n$330 Couple\n$115 Commuter per person URL:/event/oblate-retreat-september-2026/ LOCATION:Saint Benedict Guesthouse and Retreat Center\, 1 Abbey Drive\, Saint Benedict\, OR\, 97373 CATEGORIES:Oblates ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:/wp-content/uploads/Oblate-Retreats.jpg GEO:45.056634549673;-122.77520340229 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Saint Benedict Guesthouse and Retreat Center 1 Abbey Drive Saint Benedict OR 97373;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=1 Abbey Drive:geo:-122.77520340229,45.056634549673 END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20260919T150000 DTEND;TZID=America/Los_Angeles:20260919T150000 DTSTAMP:20260609T090402 CREATED:20260514T013717Z LAST-MODIFIED:20260529T004343Z UID:10000022-1789830000-1789830000@www.mountangelabbey.org SUMMARY:Autumn Organ Concert by Charles Thompson DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Bach organ concert performed by Charles Thompson on the Grand Organ in the Abbey church. \n\nAdmission is free thanks to the Mount Angel Institute. When published\, additional copies will be available through Mount Angel Bookstore\, as well as through Amazon in both paperback and ebook editions. \nMargaret Kellermann is a longtime journal workshop leader and the director of Brave Arts in Northern California. Discover how and why the truth of how God made us can set us free from the judgments\, lies and ungodly self-reliance rooted in our wounds. The Holy Spirit comes powerfully to our aid as we form our intellect in the truth and conform our will to God’s\, restoring the flow of grace in and through us for the healing of ourselves and others. \n\nDr. Christin McIntyre is a married mother of five who converted to Catholicism in 1997. She earned a combined MD/PhD degree in Pharmacology and Toxicology from the University of Kansas Medical Center\, and returned to Oregon to complete a residency in Psychiatry at OHSU. She has been in outpatient practice as a psychiatrist in the Portland area since 2003\, transitioning to telehealth in 2020\, and now treats patients remotely in four states since relocating to Idaho in 2021. In addition to medication management\, psychotherapy continues to be a main focus of her practice. To better serve a growing number of Catholic patients in recent years\, she has pursued training in Thomistic psychology as well as with the John Paul II Healing Center\, and has been a featured guest on two recent episodes of the Restore the Glory Podcast with Dr. Bob Schuchts and Jake Khym. Dr. McIntyre and her husband are Oblates of ݮƵ in Oregon\, where she offers periodic retreats that draw from her experience in clinical psychiatry\, spiritual healing ministry\, and the Catholic faith. Michael Shrum\, OSB \nOblate retreats are limited to oblates and those interested in becoming oblates. \nOblates of Saint Benedict are Christians who have experienced in some way a call to embrace Benedictine spirituality. \nTo register for a retreat\, email retreat@mtangel.edu. \n(Please note: All weekend retreats begin with Vespers on Friday at 5:15 and end with lunch on Sunday.) \nOblate Weekend Retreat Rates:\n$220 Single\n$330 Couple\n$115 Commuter per person URL:/event/oblate-retreat-november-2026/ LOCATION:Saint Benedict Guesthouse and Retreat Center\, 1 Abbey Drive\, Saint Benedict\, OR\, 97373 CATEGORIES:Oblates ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:/wp-content/uploads/Oblate-Retreats.jpg GEO:45.056634549673;-122.77520340229 X-APPLE-STRUCTURED-LOCATION;VALUE=URI;X-ADDRESS=Saint Benedict Guesthouse and Retreat Center 1 Abbey Drive Saint Benedict OR 97373;X-APPLE-RADIUS=500;X-TITLE=1 Abbey Drive:geo:-122.77520340229,45.056634549673 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
